Overview

It is located north of the Canton, has an area of 49.83 km2 Tambillo is derived from the term castizo tambo and its privileged location means: sale, hostel, inn, hostel since before the construction of the Tambillo railway It was a place of rest for travelers, bystanders, relay of draft horses of the old stagecoaches and carts.

The San Pedro River borders much of its territory on the eastern side. The railroad transformed Tambillo into an important station, the income of many habitants depended on the railroad. This feature was reaffirmed with the construction of the Panamericana, currently it is located at the confluence of three roads: the railway, the Pan-American highway and the Rumiñahui General Highway.

Train Station Tambillo

The Tambillo parish, today as in the past, is a strategic location. It is for this reason that we here find a train station. It conserves the colonial architecture and is one of the touristic destinations on the train route that travels from the southern Quitumbe terminal in Quito to the Cotopaxi Province.

Protector Forest Sierra Alisos

This reserve protects part of the mountain cloud forest, an ecosystem rich in flora (trees such as Alder, Pumamaqui, Buddleja Incana, Colca, Wild Andean Cherry, and Myrtle) and fauna (mammals, birds, amphibians, insects, etc.). The forest regulates a microclimate that maintains humid temperatures and indexes, allowing for conditions normally scene in forests of lower altitude. Examples of this unique plant variety include epiphytes, carnivorous bromeliads, and orchids, as well as lichens and mosses.

This is a native forest, thus, visitors may appreciate a large number of endemic species that have become more and more rare to find. In order to make the most of your experience, it is necessary to book your visit in advance at www.sierra-alisos.com. Available activities include biking, camping, hiking, and a glimpse of local daily life through a cheese-making workshop.
