It is located to the South West of the Canton, with a total area of 145.40km2. Being located at the foot of the Illinizas, its inhabitants are known as
the eternal guardians of the thousand-year-old colossus, their lands are prodigal, eminently agricultural and livestock, diverse and picturesque landscapes, this parish opens its doors to national and foreign tourists. Formerly this territory was an extensive property of Mrs. Doña Manuela Carcelén also known as La Marquesa de Solanda.
Illinizas
Upon arrival in Mejía, you will discover one of the most unique volcanoes in the world. Its caldera is divided in two, looking like two needles, which guard a small lake between them.
For those who practice mountain climbing, this is a peak that requires high-altitude acclimatization and preparation. There is a rustic refuge located between the north and south peaks. Visitors may arrive by a 40 minute truck ride from El Chaupi, followed by an approximately 3 hour climb. It is located 23km to the southeast of Machachi.
