VISIT TO THE CUMBITEO FOREST (UMBRIA) Project led by us to conserve the last relict of high Andean forest in the area.
The Cumbiteo forest is a small bird sanctuary located only 20 minutes from BeeFarm Ugshapamba. It is located at 3400 meters above sea level. It is the last remnant of this type of ecosystem that can be found on the eastern flank or foothills of the Corazón volcano.
The place has a viewpoint of the mountain range from which on a clear day you can see a total of 8 volcanoes. It is an ideal place to go camping, or just to visit and admire the size of its centenary species of native trees of the mountain range.
You can also observe many species of high altitude birds of the Andean forest, it is an ideal place to practice birdwatching.
There is a 45-minute, medium-difficulty trail through the forest for trekking and then downhill, downhill on horseback or back on the trail. There are basic facilities and native guides who are in training.
By visiting Cumbiteo you will be supporting the conservation of the reserve, since for each visitor a native tree species will be planted in the buffer zone of the reserve. In addition to contributing to the conservation of the diversity of the high altitude forests, you will be protecting the water sources that provide the vital liquid to all the inhabitants of the lower zone of Corazón in Machachi.
